"This can't be goodbye." Buffy said teary eyed beforethe one she loved.

"I leave tonight." Angel couldn't even look her in theeye. For he knew if he did, he would fall in love allover again.

"I'm not ready for you to leave." Buffy said trying tobuy time

Angel raised his head. Buffy could barely see hisface, he was clothed by the night as usual. How shewished that he would never go, that the Mayor would never have givenhis 'fatherly advice'. Now all Buffy could do was sheda few tears.

"I'm...ready...to leave. It's how it has to be."

"No, no it doesn't. We can still be together. Likeold times."

"We can't have old times. Buffy we won't have newtimes either."

"But, I share everything with you."

"No you don't."

Buffy knew what he meant and it hurt her more thananything. She didn't share her most private thoughtsor her joys. It wasn't that she meant to it was just that he wasnever there when she was sharing. When she was sharinghe was hiding from the sun.

"But we can start again. All over. New everything."Buffy put her arms tightly around Angel and began tosob. When he made no move to hug her back she sobbed evenharder. She shoved away from him. "What did I do? Tellme! Give me some peace, so at least when you're gone I cansleep and move on with my life. You're gonna be gone,new places, new people while I'll be stuck here witheverything that reminds me of you. When I go to theBronze I'll remember the dances we shared. When I go to my room atnight I'll open my window just in case. When I go toyour mansion I'll relive the moment I made the decisionthat I had to send you too Hell.....And your shoulderwon't be here for me to cry on. You won't be here."

Angel almost lost it. How could he cause her this muchpain? How could he, moreover why would he causehimself this much pain. But then again pain was all his lifewas about. He knew he would miss the Slayer greatly.No, not just the Slayer, she was Buffy the love of his immortalsouled life. He knew he would think of her every nightwonder if she's Ok. And then when it came time for her callingto be up, destiny would call him to. He would alwaysbe with her even in death.

"Buffy I'm sorry it's gonna happen this way."

"No you're not. You know what you are not gonna do thisto me. So I'm gonna say goodbye first so I won't hurtanymore." Buffy turned and fled she ran until therewas no where else to run. Her life was over, but sheknew deep down inside that the sun would rise again and again.And when the moon rose above her she could always lookat it as a constant reminder of the nights they spenttogether. "I love you." Buffy whispered into the coldnight air.

Angel watched as she ran. She always was the strongerof the two. He was just the stupid one. He felt thespace in his body where a still beating heart should be ache, theway a humans did when being left by your lover. Andfor that one moment he thought maybe he was just that. Human.But who was he kidding. He was a monster born into thenight as Angelus. Now he was born into the night as alonely creature who could walk like a man but wasn't.Alone, ashamed and afraid. There was nothing that could fixwhat happened here tonight. He loved her and it wasthe hardest thing for him to look her in the eye and sayhe didn't want to be with her. He didn't know what hewould do now. All he could do was leave. "You will always be mygirl, Buffy Summers, always.
